NIKKO was founded in Kanazawa, Japan in 1908. Successive lords promoted traditional culture and crafts of the city and the first kiln was established on the land of Kanazawa.
NIKKO has gained an international reputation for quality and for designs which are representative of Japan, the country of ceramics. We have pursued our own style of Japanese products which gives them the look of being hand-made.

Nikko History
- 1908 Japan Ironstone Inc. was founded in Kanazawa.
- 1915 Production of "Sansui" decoration started.
- 1917 Korea Ironstone Inc. was founded in Pusan, Korea, then merged with Japan Ironstone Inc.
- 1925 The main office was moved to Pusan, Korea.
- 1948 The general headquarters of the Allied Powers required licenses to operate overseas assets. The status of NIKKO COMPANY was disputed by the Ministry of Finance and the local government.
- 1950 Under a new government ordinance after WWII, the company was reorganized and NIKKO CERAMICS Co, Ltd. was founded.
- 1957 Production of "Ming Tree" decoration started.
- 1961 A porcelain factory was built in Hakusan, Ishikawa, where the present main office is located.
- 1966 FRP product factory was built in Gyoda, Saitama, for the housing equipment business.
- 1968 U.S. subsidiary NIKKO CERAMICS, INC. was founded in New York.
- 1975 Production of Perception China started.
- 1977 A tile factory was built in Tsurugimachi (present Hakusan City) in Ishikawa, for the domestic tile business.
- 1977 A trade showroom was opened at the 41 Madison Avenue building in New York.
- 1978 Production of Bone China started.
- 1982 New Bone China factory was built in Tsurugimachi, Ishikawa.
- 1983 The company name was changed to NIKKO COMPANY, and a new logo was created.
- 1987 Production of Fine China started in the main factory. A full line of materials systems for tableware was established for Ironstone, Perception China, porcelain and bone China.
- 1988 Electro-Ceramics business started.
- 1995 A Showroom was opened in Tokyo.
- 1999 Sales of wind turbines started.
- 2007 Production of Hakuro (Fine China) started. New trademark was created.
- 2008 The company celebrated its 100 years anniversary.
- 2010 New NIKKO flagship store in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping area opened.
- 2011 Nikko launch at Maison & Objet in Paris, the leading trade show for home goods fashion.
- 2014 Debut at Frankfurt Ambiente, the world’s largest consumer goods trade show.

Fine Bone China
Bone China modeled after white Porcelain of the Orient, was first created in England some 200 years ago by the new ceramic technique of firing clay mixed with bone ash. NIKKO has succeeded in creating the highest-quality Bone China, with 50% bone ash content. With its pure white color and superb translucency, NIKKO Fine Bone China is said to be the whitest Bone China in the worldwide market and it has a reputation of unparalleled durability and chip-resistance.
Porcelain
NIKKO produces several patterns in Porcelain, a material which works very well with today’s domestic and institutional demands. There are both formal patterns with platinum banding and more casual designs without. Porcelain patterns offer high durability.
Ironstone
NIKKO has more than 100 years' experience in manufacturing fine Ironstone. In contrast to the cool white of ordinary Porcelain, the color of fine Ironstone is warm milky white. Ironstone is more heat-insulating and more resistant to physical shock than conventional Porcelain ware. The underglazed decorations look perpetually fresh and will never fade or wear off.
