Our Story
The love of life, family, friends and good food has inspired COSTA NOVA to create fi ne stoneware collections that combine quality and design with the best in ceramic craftsmanship.
The brand produces innovative and sustainable stoneware made from the best natural resources in Portugal. COSTA NOVA was born in a small Portuguese fishing village, near the Atlantic Ocean. Nowadays, carrying Portugal´s name and heritage all over the world, the brand is present across the 5 continents, in prestigious department stores and boutiques, hotels and renowned restaurants.
Using the best natural resources in Portugal, COSTA NOVA products are made in a single fi ring system heated up to 1180 ºC (2160 ºF) which creates a unique ceramic body with a special bonding between the clay and the glazed surface. This original formula explains why our stoneware is so durable and resistant to both thermal and mechanical shocks.
In addition, our team of designers, technicians, modelers and craftsmen are constantly developing original shapes and colors, all the way to truly unique designed and handcrafted pieces.

Care and Handling Procedures
TABLEWARE
FINE STONEWARE
Not all stoneware is created equally. In fact there is not a standard, universal definition of stoneware and the word is
frequently misused to describe other ceramic products.
At our factories in Portugal, ancient skills of modelling and decorating are combined with modern technology in a special
process that produces high-quality fine stoneware products capable of withstanding everyday use over many years.
Manufactured in a single firing system heated up to 1180 ºC
(2160 ºF) our stoneware is very strong and durable. Its glazed
surface is fully vitrified which gives it high resistance to both
thermal and mechanical shocks.
OVEN, FREEZER AND MICROWAVE SAFE
All pieces manufactured in fine stoneware have high thermal
shock resistance, withstanding temperature variations
between -20 ºC and 250 ºC (0 ºF to 500 ºF). The maximum
thermal variation advised is 180 ºC (350 ºF).
All stoneware products can be safely used in the oven,
microwave and freezer. As a precaution you should avoid
placing pieces straight from the oven on a cold surface. Do
not use it over a deirct flame.
Avoid the use of products with craquelée surfaces such Lisboa,
Madeira, Pearl Aqua and Riviera in the oven and freezer.
DISHWASHER SAFE
All our pieces are easy to wash and clean and abrasive
cleaners can be used without the risk of damaging the surface
due to its high durability and low porosity. Most items can
be washed daily in the dishwasher. To ensure the items last
longer we advise you to make sure that no item rubs or bumps
against another during the wash cycle, preventing damage. As
a precaution we recommend you wash oversized items and
more delicate pieces by hand.
FOOD SAFE
All COSTA NOVA products meet the standards established
by International Standards including US Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) with regard to lead and cadmium. They
are food safe.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
All COSTA NOVA stoneware products are hand-finished which
provides them unique character.
Any irregularities, color variations or small imperfections should
not be considered defects, but unique marks of authenticity.

- In the dishwasher - separate glasses from ceramics and
cutlery; make sure to set the dishwasher to a low temperature;
use a proper glass rack; ensure rinse aid is always topped up.
